Two kinds of ladder
Strap ladders (Yes4All, GHB) are two nylon straps with plastic rungs that slide along them: cheap, long, adjustable spacing, and they tangle in the bag and shift when you catch a rung. Hinged ladders (SKLZ Quick Ladder Pro) have rigid side rails on hinges that fold flat and unfold square: ten-second setup, rungs that never move, fixed spacing, shorter. For a hallway or a driveway where you set up and take down every session, hinged; for a yard where the ladder stays out, strap.

Length by space
10 ft fits a hallway, a balcony, one parking space. 15 ft fits a two-car driveway. 20 ft wants a yard or a cul-de-sac. Two hinged ladders link end to end if you outgrow 10 ft; a 20 ft strap ladder can be folded in half to make 10. For most home users the honest answer is 10–15 ft — drills are about foot speed, not distance.
Rung spacing
Closer rungs (12–15 in.) force quick feet; wider rungs (18 in.+) allow bounding and lateral drills. The strap ladders adjust; the SKLZ is fixed at about 17 in., a good compromise. If you are training a sport with a lot of lateral movement, adjustable spacing is worth the tangling.
