How we pick and score gear — and what we never claim

Units we claim to have tested: none

We do not own a test lab and do not receive products from manufacturers. Every pick on this site is a research pick: we read the manufacturer's product page and mounting or sizing instructions, confirm the model is currently sold on Amazon.com, and score it on the rubric for its category. Where a competitor writes “in our testing”, we write what we read and where. That is less glamorous and far easier for you to check.

How products are shortlisted

1. Real, currently-sold models only. A product must have a live manufacturer page or retailer listing we can cite. Discontinued models, and models we cannot verify, are not listed.
2. The renter's criteria first. Before brand or price we ask: what door width or ceiling height does it need, does it need drilling, what does it do to a floor, how much space does it hold permanently, and does it come down without a trace.
3. Cheap but durable beats cheap. Rated load, material and construction (welds, seams, gauge) decide between two products at the same price.
4. Every pick gets a “skip this if”. If we can't say who should not buy it, we haven't understood the product.

The rubrics

Each category is scored on four or five metrics, 1–10 each, weighted to an overall score out of 10. The weights favor what a small-space buyer needs — fit, reversibility, floor safety, footprint — over what a commercial gym wants. The scores are editorial judgments from the published information; they are not measurements, and they never appear in structured data (no Review or AggregateRating markup on this site).

Why every price says “Check price on Amazon”

We never type a price into a page. Prices belong to the retailer and change daily; a typed number is wrong within a week and misleading forever. The site is built to show live Amazon prices inside each button, refreshed daily from Amazon's own data and stamped with the date they were checked, and to hide any price older than 48 hours automatically. The live price feed is not yet connected, so every button reads “Check price on Amazon” and opens the current listing — the honest state, not a placeholder.

What we never do

• Invent prices, star ratings, review counts or product identifiers.
• Claim hands-on testing, owned units, a lab or an expert panel.
• Mark up our editorial scores as product reviews or ratings in structured data.
• Accept payment, free products or sponsored placement in exchange for a spot on a list.
• Publish a number we cannot source. If a maker doesn't publish a load rating, the page says “not published”.

How picks are re-verified

Every roundup and comparison is re-checked every 90 days: is each product still listed, has the maker changed the specs, is there a better option for the buyer we serve. The “Updated” date on the page changes when we do. Corrections sent to the contact page are fixed within seven days and dated on the page.
