Best Kettlebell Set · Kettlebells

The best kettlebell set for a home gym — and why you probably shouldn't buy a set

We went looking for boxed cast iron kettlebell sets and found most of them out of stock, half of them filled with cement, and nearly all of them selling you weights you will never use. Here is the one real set, and the three better ways to get the same ladder.

What we found when we went looking for sets

On 26 September 2026 we checked every cast iron kettlebell set we could find from a maker that publishes real specs. Titan lists three — a 30 lb set (5, 10, 15 lb), a 70 lb set (10, 15, 20, 25 lb) and a 105 lb set — and all three were out of stock. FringeSport lists three multi-bell sets and all three were sold out; only the matched pairs were available. CAP's own store sells sets, but the ones it stocks are cement-filled and vinyl-coated rather than solid cast iron. Kettlebell Kings' set pages would not load for us at all.

That leaves REP's 8-24 kg five-bell set as the one boxed cast iron set we could both verify and buy. It is a good set. It is also a large amount of money and about 170 lb of iron arriving on one patch of floor, which is why three quarters of this page is about the alternatives.

The four routes, compared

From each maker's own product pages, checked 26 September 2026
RouteWhat you getFloor spaceLadder coveredBest for

Matched pair (FringeSport)2 identical bells~1 sq ftOne weight, doubledDouble-bell work

Route 1: buy the real set (if you have the floor)

REP's set is 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 kg — 18 to 53 lb — gravity die-cast with flat machined bases and a textured black coat that holds chalk. The detail that matters, and that cheap sets get wrong, is that the handle diameter grows with the bell: 32 mm on the 8 and 12 kg, 33 mm on the 16, 38 mm on the 20 and 39 mm on the 24. A set that puts a 24 kg bell on a 32 mm handle will tear your hands on high-rep swings.

Five bells is the complete ladder. You swing the 16 or 20, press the 12 or 16, goblet squat the 20 or 24, and the 8 is there for turkish get-ups and for anyone else in the house. Nothing in the progression is missing, which is the whole appeal.

The cost is floor and money. Five bells is roughly 170 lb concentrated in a small area — fine on a slab, worth thinking about on a suspended upper floor. Read kettlebells in an apartment before committing that much iron to an apartment.

Route 2: an adjustable bell instead of a set

This is the answer for most people reading this site. Titan's adjustable competition bell covers 12 to 32 kg (26 to 70 lb) in one steel shell with one handle diameter — a wider ladder than the five-bell set, on one square foot of floor, for a fraction of the price. It is not perfect: changing weight takes a minute, you only have one bell so double-bell work is out, and a competition shell is a fixed size regardless of load.

But if your training is swings, goblet squats, presses and get-ups, one adjustable bell is a genuinely better purchase than five fixed ones. The full case, and the alternatives from BowFlex and Yes4All, are in the adjustable kettlebell roundup.

Route 3: build the ladder yourself, in the right order

Three single bells, bought in sequence, cover almost everything a five-bell set does for far less. The order matters more than the brand:

  • Bell one — your swing bell. 16 kg (35 lb) for most men, 12 kg (26 lb) for most women. This is the bell you will use most and the one to buy well.
  • Bell two — your press bell. One step down from your swing bell, so 12 kg or 8 kg. Pressing and get-ups need less than swinging does.
  • Bell three — your heavy bell. One or two steps up, bought when the swing bell stops being hard. Usually 20 or 24 kg.

Yes4All's solid cast iron bells are the value option for this and the site's overall pick; the main roundup has the rest of the field. If you have no idea where you land, the sizing guide works it out movement by movement rather than by a chart.

Route 4: a matched pair, not a ladder

Double-bell work — double front squats, double presses, double swings, racked carries — is a whole category a ladder of singles cannot touch, because it needs two identical bells. FringeSport sells Prime pairs in 12, 20, 24 and 32 kg, powder-coated solid cast iron with flat machined bases. Buy a pair second, at the weight you have already outgrown for single-bell work.

What to avoid in a "set"

Cement or sand fill with a vinyl coat. The shell is much bigger than a cast iron bell of the same weight, so a 35 lb vinyl bell sits on your forearm like a 50 lb one and the coating splits at the handle eventually. Sets that lead with a 5 lb bell. Nobody trains with a 5 lb kettlebell after week one; you are paying for a paperweight. Sets with a rack. The rack is usually most of the price and a wall or a corner does the same job. The full cast iron versus competition argument is in that comparison.

How this list was built

We read every set's bell weights, handle diameters, casting method, finish, price and stock status off the maker's own product page on 26 September 2026, and excluded everything that was out of stock that day — which removed six of the nine boxed sets we looked at. Scoring used the kettlebell rubric: handle and finish 25%, weight increments and adjustability 20%, footprint and floor safety 20%, build 20%, value 15%. Footprint is weighted for a renter, which is why a single adjustable bell scores close to a five-bell set. No bells were tested in a lab; we own no lab and say so on our methodology page.

Pick 1 · Kettlebells

REP Fitness Kettlebell Set (8-24 kg, five bells)

REP Fitness

The one boxed cast iron set that was actually in stock: 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 kg (18-53 lb), gravity die-cast, flat machined bases, handles stepping 32 to 39 mm, color-coded to the international standard.

Best for
A garage gym that wants the whole swing-to-press ladder in one delivery

Why it is #1. The one boxed cast iron set we could verify and buy: 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 kg, gravity die-cast, flat machined bases, and handle diameters that step up with the bell instead of staying fixed. Complete ladder, in one delivery, if you have the floor and the budget.

Pros

  • Five real jumps, so nothing in the swing-clean-press progression is missing
  • Handle diameter grows with the bell, which is how a set should be cut — a 24 kg on a 32 mm handle tears hands
  • Marked in both kg and lb, and color-coded, so a session doesn't turn into a weighing exercise

Cons

  • It is the most expensive single purchase on this site, by a distance
  • Five bells is roughly 170 lb of iron sitting on one patch of floor — check the floor before the joists check it for you

Pick 2 · Kettlebells

Titan Fitness Adjustable Competition Kettlebell (12–32 kg)

Titan Fitness

A 12 kg competition-size shell with six cast iron plates (2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 6 kg) that sets almost every weight from 12 to 32 kg, 35 mm handle, flat base — the adjustable bell that swings like a real one.

Best for
Someone who wants one bell from 26 to 70 lb without a plastic shell

The set replacement. 12 to 32 kg in one competition shell on one square foot of floor — a wider range than the five-bell set for far less money. The pick for an apartment, a shared room or a first year of training.

Pros

  • Cast iron shell and plates — it drops, swings and racks like a competition bell
  • 18 weight settings from 12 to 32 kg (26–70 lb) cover a beginner through heavy swings
  • Flat base for floor work

Cons

  • Changing weight means a hex key and a wrench — a minute, not a second
  • Starts at 12 kg (26 lb); too heavy as a very first bell for some

Pick 3 · Kettlebells

Yes4All Solid Cast Iron Kettlebell

Yes4All

The one-piece cast iron bell sold in 5 lb steps from 5 to 80 lb with a 1.25 in. handle and a flat base — the default first kettlebell because you can buy exactly the size you need.

Best for
A first bell in the exact weight you need without paying for a coating you don't

Build the ladder from these. Solid cast iron singles, the cheapest way to a real three-bell ladder. Buy your swing bell first, a lighter press bell second, and a heavy bell only when the first one stops being hard.

Pros

  • 5 lb increments across the whole range — 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 lb are all there for a beginner's first two bells
  • One-piece casting, no welded handle to fail
  • Flat base sits still for rows, push-ups and storage

Cons

  • Painted (not powder-coated) finish on the basic version chips and can leave marks on a wood floor — use a mat
  • 35 mm handle is a bit thick for smaller hands on high-rep snatches

Pick 4 · Kettlebells

FringeSport Prime Kettlebell Pair (12 / 20 / 24 / 32 kg)

FringeSport

Two matched powder-coated cast iron bells at one weight — 12, 20, 24 or 32 kg — with a wide flat machined base and handles from 1.19 to 1.64 in. depending on size, and a one-year warranty.

Best for
Double-bell work (front squats, double presses, double swings) rather than a weight ladder

The pair, for double-bell work. Two matched powder-coated bells at 12, 20, 24 or 32 kg. It unlocks double front squats, double presses and racked carries, which a ladder of singles simply cannot do. FringeSport's multi-weight sets were sold out when we checked; the pairs were not.

Pros

  • A matched pair unlocks a whole category of work a ladder of singles can't touch
  • Powder coat holds chalk without shredding skin the way bare cast iron can
  • Cheaper per bell than most single-bell purchases at the same weight

Cons

  • Two bells at one weight, so there's no progression inside the purchase
  • FringeSport's multi-weight sets were sold out when we checked; only the pairs were available

Buying guide

Which route for which home

  • Garage or basement on a slab, buying once: the REP 8-24 kg set.
  • Flat, or one corner of a room: the Titan adjustable.
  • Lowest possible spend: one 16 kg (or 12 kg) cast iron bell, then add.
  • Already train with one bell and want more: a matched pair at your current weight.

The three weights that matter

16 kg, 20 kg and 24 kg cover nearly all swing and squat work for most men; 8 kg, 12 kg and 16 kg cover it for most women. Everything else in a five-bell set is convenience.

Floor, before anything else

Iron on a floor you do not own is the real constraint. A 4 ft x 6 ft mat under the bells, and set-downs instead of drops, is the difference between a training corner and a deposit dispute.

FAQ

Questions readers ask

What is the best kettlebell set for a home gym?

REP's 8-24 kg five-bell set is the best boxed cast iron set we could verify in stock: 18 to 53 lb, die cast, with handle diameters that grow with the bell. For an apartment or a tight corner, a 12-32 kg adjustable bell is a better purchase than any set.

Is it better to buy a kettlebell set or single kettlebells?

Singles, for almost everyone starting out. Three bells bought in order — swing bell, lighter press bell, then a heavy bell — cover the same training for a fraction of a set's price and a fraction of its floor space.

What weights should be in a kettlebell set?

For most men: 16, 20 and 24 kg (35, 44, 53 lb). For most women: 8, 12 and 16 kg (18, 26, 35 lb). Sets that lead with a 5 lb bell are padding the box — nobody trains with that after the first week.

Are cheap vinyl or cement kettlebell sets worth it?

No. The shells are oversized for their weight, so the bell sits badly on your forearm, and the coating eventually splits at the handle. Solid cast iron at the same weight is a smaller, better object.

How much floor space does a kettlebell set need?

Five bells is roughly 2 sq ft of floor and about 170 lb concentrated in one spot. One adjustable bell is about 1 sq ft. On a suspended upper floor, spread the weight and read our apartment guide first.
